Mumbai Schools Sports Association set to go paperless

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) spends about Rs 1.5 lakh every year to procure paper to meet its needs. After all, the body has over 360 schools in its jurisdiction and conducts tournaments for various age groups in over 19 sporting disciplines.
And now, tired of the cumbersome paper work they have to undertake every year, the MSSA has decided to go paperless. They have signed a three-year contract with software firm ‘Khelomore’ that will facilitate the online process. The company is in the process of making an app for MSSA, while they will also handle their website.

Effectively, that means from now on, schools’ representatives don’t have to come to the office at Azad Maidan to submit forms for various requests. They will just have to fill the form online. Player registration too can be done online and even participation fees can be paid through the app.

However, schools that are not able to fill the form online will have to visit the MSSA office in Azad Maidan where they will be assisted with the procedures.

Apart from the registration process, tournament schedules, results as well as video analysis of a match will be available on MSSA’s Android/IOS application. So if parents want to know how their child’s team has fared, they can do so by visiting the app. Not only parents, scouts too can keep tabs on a player’s progress.

“All this is part of MSSA’s plans to revamp the sports body since it’ll be our 125th year of existence in 2018. To be honest, the countless paperwork was a little archaic. We needed an overhaul of the existing system and facilities. We hope that through this, the parents and general public will get more involved with the proceedings,” Fr Jude Rodrigues, president of MSSA told TOI on Tuesday.

As part of the overhaul, the MSSA has redone the surface of the tennis court as well as the basketball court. Plans to re-lay the football ground are also in the pipeline. They have also constructed changing rooms for teams, something which was really the need of the hour.

Another incentive that they’ve initiated this year is insuring every registered player. If any player is injured during the tournament, he/she can avail of mediclaim upto Rs 25,000.

If all these initiatives manage to sustain, there’s going to be no stopping sports development in the city.
